Outside Danico Ironmonger

Reported via mobile in the Pavement Defect category anonymously at 10:15, Sun 30 November 2025

Sent to Camden Borough Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8481676.

The manhole cover spins in the hole. It's rectangle. My 9 year old son just fell down the manhole. He is slightly injured but it could be fatal for a younger child or elderly person

Updates

  • Caller is asking for an update on what is happening with this manhole cover if you could send any kind of update that would be much appreciated

  • This manhole is on the forecourt of a freeholder property owned and managed by Camden Council.

    - The Housing Repairs team asked the Highways team to fix the dangeour manhole cover.

    - The Highways team attended but refused to fix it as it's not on the "highway" but on the forecourt. It was explained to the worker who attended that the forecourt is owned by Camden, but he said he did not have authority to proceed with the works.

    - The Camden Housing team have now referred this to the Planning team.

    - The Planning team are baffled as to why this has been referred to them.

So the dangerous manhole cover still exists, because no one at Camden seems to have any authority to tell the Highways team to fix a manhole cover on a Camden-owned property.

How many more nine year-olds have to fall through it before someone will fix it?
