Steels Road and Haverstock Hill Junction

Reported via mobile in the Referrals to Engineering (Highways Team) category anonymously at 09:11, Saturday 19 July 2025

Sent to Camden Borough Council 2 days, 1 hour, 45 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 7901350.

Concerns Regarding Recent Road Alterations at the Intersection of Haverstock Hill and Steeles Road

1. Positioning of Road Signs: The stop signage for vehicles exiting Steeles Road onto Haverstock Hill is positioned significantly back from the main road. This placement creates confusion for drivers and makes it difficult to safely and clearly assess oncoming traffic before proceeding.

2. Hazardous Bollard: There is a black-painted bollard in front of the post box at this junction. Due to its colour and positioning—combined with the way the road has been leveled off with the cycle lane—this bollard becomes virtually invisible at night. It poses a collision hazard, and we are concerned that without appropriate markings or lighting, accidents are likely.

3. Poor Road Surface Quality: The surface of the road at the Steeles Road junction is notably uneven and bumpy. It does not appear to have been fully or adequately resurfaced following the recent works.

Given these issues, I kindly request that Camden Council urgently conducts an onsite visit of this section of road.

I would urge the Council to conduct an onsite visit to assess the conditions themselves.

Updates

  • Hi, I have changed the category for this report and referred it to the Highways Department, due to the multiple issues you have raised. Kind regards.

Category changed from ‘Faded’ to ‘Referrals to Engineering (Highways Team)’

  • I agree with the 3rd point of the original complaint. As a cyclist, the new road surface between the car and cycle lanes is of such terrible quality that it is incredibly dangerous. The surface is more like a curb, far too steep and very bumpy between the stone and tarmac. Turning onto and off steeles road is dangerous. A much better road example is at the end of Hartland road (NW1 8AG) where the surface has been done at a much shallower angle and better executed.
