The zebra crossing is badly designed in terms of vision and access for both pedestrians and drivers. There is also a trip hazard- big slabs of raised concrete on either side of the middle of the crossing. (Circled in red on photos). To explain further: As a pedestrian, crossing from the south side of St Pancras way it is impossible to see the cars travelling towards you because of the row of parked cars. It is also impossible as a car driver approaching to see pedestrians waiting to cross because of these parked cars. (It seems to be legal parking zone). Furthermore, the cycle lanes are on each side in both directions (which I fully support- it is vital to have safe, segregated cycle lanes), but the layout makes it a very hazardous crossing to use for a pedestrian.
Finally, the raised concrete squares that I have circled in red on my photos are very dangerous - a friend tripped over one this afternoon as she had to hurry across the zebra due to a car and a bicycle not registering her on the crossing. She tripped and hit her head, luckily someone stopped to assist. But she is concussed and has had to visit A and E! This would not have happened with better vision at the crossing, or if the raised concrete squares had a yellow plastic sign/ bollard -type structure as is often seen on these small areas. This would have served as an alert to my friend and avoided the accident. I cannot believe this is a unique incident. This crossing really needs review. I have often thought the crossing very dangerously designed and today has proved it.
