The pavement at the base of the tree at this location

Reported via desktop in the Pavement Defect category anonymously at 16:43, Thursday 6 March 2025

Sent to Camden Borough Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7236970.

The paving around the base of the tree has been filled with a black rubbery substance.

Since the pavement here is extremely busy with pedestrians (including many students), it is important the pavement here works well, but it does not. This problem has been going on since the substance was installed a long time ago.

1) the rubbery substance of the surface continuously shreds chunks, which then spreads all around the nearby floor, making it all look dirty. It sticks to soles and I end up with the rubbery particles on my bedroom floor too.

2) the rubbery surface is too steep and uneven, so people avoid stepping on it, which makes the pavement very narrow. So everybody channels into a narrow space, making this section quite stressful to walk through, every time I pass through it, which is quite often.

3) can you please fix this paving so that it is flat, and so that it doesn’t shred, and so that it is a welcoming material for people to walk on, so everyone doesn’t avoid the rubbery material and only squeeze onto the section of the pavement that has slabs.

Thank you
