The yellow hatched box at the junction of Gloucester Ave and Parkway needs to be extended as the current setup is failing to manage congestion effectively. While the existing box allows vehicles from Delancey St to progress towards Primrose Hill, it provides little assistance to traffic attempting to join Parkway from Gloucester Avenue near Foxtons.
During periods of significant congestion—particularly with heavy traffic flowing from Gloucester Gate Bridge or Prince Albert Rd down Parkway—vehicles frequently push into the intersection, completely blocking access from Gloucester Avenue. This blockage not only prevents cars from merging onto Parkway but also obstructs access to the cycle lane, creating an unsafe and frustrating situation for cyclists as well.
Recent roadworks have compounded this issue, slowing the overall traffic flow even further. Consequently, vehicles waiting at Gloucester Avenue can often miss two or three green lights before finding any opportunity to merge onto Parkway.
Additionally, Parkway traffic tends to form in multiple lanes—sometimes three cars wide—which consumes all available space and further obstructs vehicles attempting to join from Gloucester Avenue.
Extending the yellow hatched box would make a substantial difference by keeping more space clear at the intersection, allowing vehicles, including the 274 bus route, a fair chance to join Parkway. This adjustment would improve traffic flow, reduce delays, and enhance safety for all road users—motorists and cyclists alike—at this busy junction.
It may also make sense to review the timings of the traffic lights at this junction to ensure they are optimised for the current flow of traffic.
