Outside 236 and 240 Belsize Road

Reported via desktop in the Potholes category anonymously at 16:55, Mon 22 January 2024

Sent to Camden Borough Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5477011.

This issue was recently marked as ‘Fixed’ yet no repairs seem to have been carried out at all.

The recent bout of cold weather also seems to have exacerbated the problem, as well as HGVs bombing down the road at great speeds.

At times, buses or these HGVs hit these potholes so hard and it sounds like a bomb’s gone off, again vigorously shaking the surrounding buildings and surely only causing further damage to the road.

These potholes were initially reported 4 months ago now, and allowing this to go on in this state for such a length of time is only going to result in more costly repairs.

This is a ridiculously inefficient approach from the Council.

Updates

  • I’m writing regarding the complain reference number COMLR9425. I have received an email from the Council confirming that this complaint has been assigned but I cannot respond to that e-mail address as it is a “no-reply”, so how can I inform if I need anything further? There was a sign stating that some road-works (maybe the repairs needed) were going to be carried out on Tuesday 12th March, therefore not to park on that stretch of road, but the sign is not there anymore - is this because there road-works have been cancelled? The three potholes are getting bigger and deeper, and the cosmetic repairs that have been carried out over the last months least less than two weeks. Please take care of this issue properly.

  • These potholes are becoming worse and driving over them or trying to avoid them is problematic due to the cars parked nearby. Is this issue going to be fixed?

  • Some repairs have been carried out and the issue is not yet fixed. The asphalt is not lined up and there are still consistent steps along that stretch of road. Every time that an heavy vehicle passes over them, the buildings around start shaking badly, causing them serious damage at their structure as they are 130+ years old, made of bricks and timber beams. Every day we hope that the old beams will keep resisting to these continuous stresses and that they will not crack, but they will at some point if this continues to be ignored and not be taken seriously. It is inevitable. Someone in charge is more than welcome to come in our houses and experience what we are talking about for over a year. Why is it not possible to get that little area re-done rather than keep adding asphalt at such a poor level of standard? The surrounding roads in South Hampstead are well kept and in good conditions, but that area is in such a neglect state that you feel like you are living somewhere else.
